The purpose was to make a new superplasticizer, for mixing with concrete, by copolymerization. Superplasticizers are able to enhance the placing characteristics of concrete mixtures by increasing the workability.

A large range of copolymers was synthesised for the development of potential cement superplasticizers. With the best product, a very smooth cement mix was obtained, effect that can be of major importance for customers.
